About the Research Grant Program
We fund pilot, innovative, high-potential research that could significantly advance the field. This program has funded many novel ideas for the diagnosis and treatment of prostate cancer.
The pilot grants program is specifically designed to complement, rather than compete with, funding from traditional sources such as the National Cancer Institute of Canada and CIHR. The Foundation has developed a fast-track fully webified application process (Cap.net) designed to minimize paperwork and accelerate funding to prostate cancer researchers. The funds are released within 90 days of the close of competition.
Through the pilot grant program, the Foundation grants over a million dollars each year to physicians, researchers and scientists from all across Canada, many of whom have never before received any Foundation funds. Often, because the Foundation tends to fund early-stage projects, the awards are the only source of funding for these projects.
We have also added Clinician-Scientist Award program this year, which will provide salary and research support for outstanding Clinician-Scientists initiating a career as independent investigators/junior faculty in prostate cancer research. These awards provide the opportunity for new faculty, with three or fewer years of service, as independent investigators to develop and demonstrate independence in initiating and conducting prostate cancer research.
